Offered here is an original U.S. M1917 “Brodie” pattern steel helmet, first adopted during World War I and later reissued for Civil Defense service. This example remains complete with liner and chinstrap and features a Civil Defense front insignia.
The M1917 helmet was standard issue for American forces in WWI and continued to see stateside service after the war. Many surviving examples were refurbished and repainted for Civil Defense and home front use, making them a unique crossover piece between WWI battlefield history and WWII-era domestic preparedness.
